Kazakhstan’s Defense Ministry has updated the rules on the use of mobile phones by military personnel, Orda.kz reports, citing the ministry’s press service.
Under an order signed by the minister on March 30, 2026, the procedure for bringing in, taking out and using mobile phones in military units and ministry structures has been revised.
Under the new rules, conscript soldiers, cadets and military college students are allowed to bring mobile devices to their place of service in a switched-off state.
Phones may be used in barracks, as well as in military hospitals and medical units.
Previously, servicemen were allowed to use only basic phones and only during strictly limited hours. Now the rules have been updated, and conscripts are allowed to use their own smartphones.
These changes reflect a modern approach to the army. They also allow servicemen to stay in touch with family members, develop themselves and use their free time effectively. the Defense Ministry said.
According to the ministry, phone use will be determined by unit commanders and is usually limited to personal time in the daily schedule. The aim is to ensure that combat and state-legal training are not disrupted.
