Rare footage of a snow leopard has been recorded in Altyn-Emel National Park, Orda.kz reports.
The predator was spotted and filmed by state inspector Erlan Moldakhmetov while patrolling the area.
Seeing a snow leopard in Kazakhstan is rare. According to experts, there are about 150–190 of these Red Book animals in the country.
The snow leopard is one of the most elusive representatives of wildlife. It lives in the highlands of Central Asia and is considered a symbol of strength and freedom. The animal is well adapted to harsh conditions: it moves confidently across rocky terrain and can hunt prey larger than itself.
In Kazakhstan, the species is under special protection.
