Kazakhstanis Rescue Two Pelicans Exhausted by Extreme Heat

Two exhausted pelicans were rescued near Usharal after extreme heat left them unable to continue flying, Orda.kz reports.

Tekeli residents spotted the birds on a highway and gave them water. They then took the pelicans to the nearest body of water, where they were able to recover.

Ornithologists say pelicans depend heavily on bodies of water and are particularly vulnerable to dehydration during extreme heat. Some pelican species are listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book and are protected by the state.
