Tian Shan Brown Bear Caught Scratching Its Back on Camera Trap

A Tian Shan brown bear was filmed scratching its back against a tree in Zhongar-Alatau National Park, Orda.kz reports.

During the summer, Tian Shan brown bears regain the energy they lost over the winter and begin building up fat reserves. They usually search for food in the early morning and during the cooler evening hours.

The Forestry and Wildlife Committee noted that Tian Shan brown bears help spread the seeds of the Sievers apple, a rare and valuable wild fruit tree considered the ancestor of cultivated apple varieties.

Camera-trap footage and monitoring conducted in Zhongar-Alatau National Park indicate that Tian Shan brown bears are being spotted more frequently and that their population is gradually increasing.
