Kazakhstani Tennis Player Shevchenko Beats World No. 9

Kazakhstani tennis player Alexander Shevchenko won a resounding victory at the Miami Open tournament, beating one of the favorites – American Ben Shelton, who ranks ninth in the world ranking, Orda.kz reports.
The match lasted three sets. In the first one, Shevchenko lost in the tie‑break – 6:7 (3:7), but then won the second – 7:6 (7:3) – and took the decisive set – 6:3.
For the 25‑year‑old Kazakhstani, who is currently in 84th place in the ranking of the elite men’s professional tennis series organized by the ATP Tour, this is one of the most high‑profile victories in recent times.
Shevchenko began his professional career in Russia, but since 2024 he has been playing under the flag of Kazakhstan. He is gradually establishing himself at the ATP level and increasingly shows strong results at major tournaments. He is known for his consistent baseline game, powerful strokes and endurance at decisive moments.
In the next round, the Kazakhstani will face Frenchman Ugo Humbert, who ranks 34th in the world ranking.
