The Alatau Tennis Center, now the largest tennis facility in Almaty, has officially opened. The new sports complex not only strengthens the city’s athletic infrastructure but also creates new opportunities for training professional players, hosting international tournaments, and engaging young people in tennis.
The center is designed to accommodate both professionals and amateurs of all ages, with facilities suitable for tournaments of various levels and categories.
Training will be conducted by qualified coaches.
The opening ceremony was attended by Almaty Akim Darkhan Satybaldy and President of the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation Bulat Utemuratov, along with professional players competing in the ATP 250 Almaty Open tournament, taking place from October 11–19 at Almaty Arena — including Daniil Medvedev, Karen Khachanov, Alexander Shevchenko, Beibit Zhukaev, and Flavio Cobolli.
The athletes held a master class for children and planted trees on the grounds of the new center.
The new tennis center has become an important sports facility for one of the city’s growing districts. It will serve as a venue for training young athletes as well as for hosting national and international competitions. This not only enhances Almaty’s prestige in the eyes of the global sports community but also contributes to the city’s further development,
said Darkhan Satybaldy.
The project was implemented with the support of the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation. Located in the Alatau district, the center features modern infrastructure that meets international standards.
Investing in infrastructure helps make tennis accessible to a wider range of Kazakhstanis. The Alatau Tennis Center is a clear example of how the sport is gaining popularity through world-class facilities. Today, more than 30,000 children in Kazakhstan play tennis regularly. One of the Federation’s key goals is to expand participation and promote a healthy lifestyle among our citizens, emphasized Bulat Utemuratov, President of the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.
Over the past 18 years, the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation has invested more than $200 million in developing the sport. Since 2007, 38 tennis centers with 364 hard and clay courts have been built across the country. Alatau is the 39th facility constructed with the Federation’s support.
The total area of the new Alatau Tennis Center exceeds 5,000 square meters. It includes 14 courts — four indoor and four outdoor hard courts, plus six outdoor clay courts. The center also houses a gym, medical office, conference room, and administrative wing. Seating is available for 150 spectators at the outdoor courts and 100 indoors, with a total daily capacity of up to 500 visitors.
Special attention will be given to inclusive tennis programs and discounted training for children from large or low-income families.
