Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports Serik Zharasbayev has spoken about plans to host the 2029 Asian Games in Almaty, Orda.kz reports
He said that before the bid is approved, the ministry reviewed the city’s sports infrastructure and concluded that existing venues meet international standards and fully cover the requirements of the Asian Winter Games program, so no additional construction would be needed.
«This is confirmed by the 2011 Asian Winter Games and the 28th Winter Universiade held in 2017. As for traffic jams, we were also concerned at the time that the influx of tourists and athletes could affect the city. However, with proper traffic management and a well-designed competition schedule, we managed to avoid congestion problems in 2017. Overall, the city coped with the task,» he said at a Senate briefing
Asked about the budget, Zharasbayev said the exact figures have not yet been determined and that funding would be shaped later.
