Kazakhstani Arrested for Setting Fire to Russian Cell Towers

44-year-old Vitaly Boiko was detained in the Moscow region for setting fire to cell towers.

The man acted on instructions from people who identified themselves as Ukrainian intelligence service employees, reports Orda.kz.

According to Mash, Boiko lived in Russia without registration and official employment.

He responded to an offer received on Telegram. Unknown individuals promised him over 200,000 tenge for each burned-down mobile communication tower.

The man destroyed four towers in Shchyolkovo and Losino-Petrovsky, causing more than 20 million tenge damage.

Boiko was later detained. He is now accused of intentional destruction of property by generally dangerous means. He faces up to five years in prison.

Boiko was previously convicted of homicide in Kazakhstan.
