Former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said he supports current President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the republican referendum on the draft of the new Constitution, Orda.kz reports.
Nazarbayev made the statement after casting his vote in the referendum. According to him, every generation must make its own contribution to the country’s development.
Time does not stand still. Generations are changing. Each generation must contribute to strengthening Kazakhstan’s independence. I believe my generation fulfilled its task by declaring independence, defining the borders, and building the capital. Now it is necessary to continue strengthening Kazakhstan and raising its standing. Much is being done for this, including today’s referendum, which I support. At one time, I made a choice in favor of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and I remain committed to that choice. I hope this Constitution will serve the good of our Kazakhstan and our people. Nazarbayev said.
He also noted that he had voluntarily resigned seven years earlier, guided by the interests of the country’s sustainable development and continuity of power.
