Kazakhstan’s new Constitution comes into force on July 1, after which the country will begin forming a new system of power and preparing for Kurultai elections, Orda.kz reports.
Justice Minister Yerlan Sarsembayev said the president is expected to announce the start of the Kurultai election campaign after the Constitution takes effect.
According to him, once the Kurultai is formed, the government will resign.
In September, the government must resign before the newly elected Kurultai. Then, with the consent of the Kurultai, other officials provided for by the Constitution will be appointed — the vice president, members of the government and others,Sarsembayev said.
The minister also said the president must reappoint several key officials within two months of the new Constitution entering into force.
They are directly listed in Article 95 of the new Constitution. These are the prosecutor general, the chairman of the National Bank, the chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, the chairman of the Supreme Court and the commissioner for human rights. This category of officials must be appointed within two months from the date the new Constitution enters into force,Sarsembayev said.
He added that all these appointments will be made by the head of state.
