Kazakhstan may introduce mandatory digital labeling for dietary supplements and jewelry, Orda.kz reports.
In Kazakhstan, they want to introduce mandatory digital labeling for dietary supplements and jewelry. The relevant draft has already been submitted for public discussion.
If it is adopted, dietary supplements will begin to be labeled from September 2026, and jewelry from December 2026.
The reason is problems in the market. For example, the situation with dietary supplements is not simple. Checks showed violations in about every fourth case. There are also many counterfeits and cases of illegal imports.
The situation with jewelry is even more serious. According to experts, more than 90% of the market may be “in the shadows.” This means that some goods are sold without proper oversight, and buyers do not always understand what exactly they are buying.
Jewelry and products made of precious metals will be subject to mandatory labeling. These include silver and gold products, jewelry made of other precious metals, as well as their parts. In addition, they plan to label watch cases made of precious metals, as well as straps and bracelets for watches.
The Ministry of Trade believes that labeling will help restore order, track goods from production to sale, and remove some illegal products from the market.
The discussion of the draft will last until April 20.
It should be noted that cigarettes, shoes, medicines, and motor oils are already being labeled in Kazakhstan. Labeling for beer and clothing is also being introduced gradually.
