Kazakhstan: MP Defends Colleague Who Proposed Foreign Agents Law, Claims "Organized Harassment"

Majilis deputy Magerram Magerramov defended his colleague Irina Smirnova, who a week earlier proposed adopting a law on foreign agents in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Magerramov believes that Smirnova was subjected to "organized persecution" after her proposal.
A planned dissemination of fakes, outright insults and bullying against the deputy has begun. Those who organized this harassment have long been named among those who received, and perhaps still receive, funding from foreign organizations such as USAID and their proxy structures. At the same time, it is possible that they also received funding directly from foreign countries.
Smirnova faced "an open manifestation of pressure and an attempt to slander a representative of the country's highest representative body of power," Magerramov claims.
He may have been referring to the situation with Arman Shorayev, who criticized the Majilis member on social media.
The activist said that he had been hacked.
An attempt to justify themselves publicly by referring to hacks only highlights the dual nature of such individuals. One wonders whether this act of bullying a deputy is an order from foreign sponsors who are pursuing their own goals. We call on the competent authorities to decisively suppress all attempts to violate the law and principles of law and order.
The People's Party of Kazakhstan "will seek justice in court; insults directed at the deputy of the Majilis of Parliament Irina Smirnova will not go unpunished," Magerram Magerramov emphasized.
