Kazakhstan Demands Action After Drone Attacks on Tankers Carrying Its Oil

Kazakhstan has demanded an immediate end to drone attacks on civilian tankers carrying its oil following incidents in the Black Sea on July 17 and 19, Orda.kz reports.

Two tankers were attacked while loading Kazakh oil at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal on July 19.

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks, calling them a threat to the country’s economic interests and to international transport and energy routes.

Of particular concern is the fact that the mechanism previously agreed upon by all parties concerned for exchanging information on civilian vessels entering the waters of the Black Sea to load oil at CPC terminals was deliberately disregarded, thereby endangering the lives and safety of the crews aboard those vessels. Kazakhstan demands an immediate halt to these attacks and the adoption of comprehensive measures to ensure the security of the infrastructure used for the export of Kazakh hydrocarbons,

the ministry said.

Kazakhstan also called on its international partners to condemn the attacks. The Foreign Ministry said the country could use legal measures to protect its interests and seek compensation after the damage is assessed.
