Kazakhstan Approves New Rules for the Protection of Monuments and Historic Sites

Kazakhstan has approved new rules for the work of organizations responsible for the protection and use of historical and cultural heritage sites, Orda.kz reports.
The relevant document was signed by Culture and Information Minister Aida Balayeva.
According to the published information, such organizations will be created by decision of local akimats in the form of municipal state institutions. They will be tasked with monitoring the preservation of historical and cultural monuments, conducting scientific research and monitoring, and preparing documents for the installation of new monuments, steles and busts.
The main responsibilities of these organizations will include:
- keeping documentation on historical and cultural heritage sites;
- annual inspection of the technical condition of monuments;
- holding exhibitions, lectures, excursions and other events;
- cooperation with scientific, educational and international organizations.
The new structures will also prepare proposals for including sites in the state list of monuments of local and national significance, developing protected zones, carrying out restoration work, and concluding protection agreements.
