Bathing in the Pond and Damaging Trees: Almaty Botanical Garden Tightens Rules After Vandalism

Videos showing visitors to the Almaty Botanical Garden violating rules of conduct have been widely circulating on social media and in the media in recent days. The garden’s administration said such cases have become more frequent amid the seasonal influx of visitors, Orda.kz reports.
With the arrival of spring, attendance at the botanical garden traditionally increases. At the same time, the administration stressed that most visitors behave properly and treat the area with care. However, during peak periods, cases of improper conduct are recorded.
In recent days, staff have documented a number of violations, especially near the pond and in other popular areas. In response, the administration has taken action. Security has been strengthened, and employees have been trained to work with violators without conflict. The number of prohibition signs across the grounds is also being increased.
We are developing a fencing project around the pond. This requires public procurement procedures and consideration of technical restrictions, as underground utilities run through the area. We are selecting designs that will be safe and will not harm the ecosystem. the administration said.
The botanical garden has the status of a specially protected natural area. Visitors were urged to follow the established rules and treat the environment with care.
