Kazakhstan and China Sign Memorandum on Seismic Safety Cooperation

In Astana, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, the Akimat of Almaty, and China’s Earthquake Administration signed a trilateral memorandum on cooperation in the area of seismic safety, Orda.kz reports.
The agreement outlines plans to establish a Kazakh-Chinese earthquake research center in Almaty. The center will focus on advancing scientific and technical collaboration to reduce seismic risks and enhance safety across Central Asia.
Key areas of cooperation include the development of early warning systems, real-time seismic data exchange, and joint research in seismology.
Almaty, one of Kazakhstan’s most seismically active cities, regularly experiences tremors. A recent earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 was recorded on May 10.
