The fifth Eurasian Economic Forum has opened in Astana, Orda.kz reports.
This year’s key topic is the EAEU in the global digital race, with a focus on artificial intelligence.
Leaders of Eurasian Economic Union member states, representatives of observer states, and international delegations arrived in Astana to take part in the forum. Guests include Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, Sadyr Zhaparov, representatives of Armenia, Cuba, Vietnam, Mongolia, and other officials.
Opening the event, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said the EAEU now plays an important role not only in the region, but also in the global economy. At the same time, he said, the union’s countries need to strengthen cooperation amid global instability.
Following the forum, EAEU members plan to adopt a joint statement on the responsible development of artificial intelligence. The initiative was proposed by Kazakhstan in December 2025.
The main purpose of this document is to record the common approaches of the union members to the digitalization of key sectors of the economy and ensure the safe implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, taking into account mutual interests,Tokayev said.
He also proposed introducing AI more actively in trade, logistics, agriculture, and industry. According to him, digitalizing customs and recognizing digital signatures will help increase trade within the EAEU.
