E-commerce in Kazakhstan grew to 6.25 trillion tenge in 2025, Orda.kz reports.
The market is still mainly driven by marketplaces. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, online sales of goods and services totaled 6.25 trillion tenge last year. In 2024, the figure stood at 5.6 trillion tenge. Growth amounted to 11.5%, or 646.4 billion tenge.
The main increase came from online sales of goods. The value of transactions rose from 3.16 trillion to 3.77 trillion tenge, up 19.4% year-on-year.
Online services changed only slightly. Their volume was 2.44 trillion tenge in 2024 and 2.48 trillion tenge in 2025, an increase of just 1.4%.
Most money still passes through marketplaces. In 2025, they accounted for 5.26 trillion tenge, or about 84% of all e-commerce. In 2024, 4.75 trillion tenge passed through marketplaces.
Sales through companies’ own websites also increased, but they remain far behind marketplaces. In 2025, goods and services worth 983.2 billion tenge were sold through such online resources. A year earlier, the figure was 854.7 billion tenge.
The number of companies using the Internet for sales changed little: 3,248 compared with 3,239 a year earlier. But within this figure, it is clear where businesses are moving. More companies are entering marketplaces.
The total number of sellers and service providers on such platforms rose from 2,671 to 2,698. Growth in goods sellers was more noticeable, from 1,937 to 2,358 companies.
Phones and gadgets brought in the most money on marketplaces, at 552.9 billion tenge. However, this category declined over the year. In 2024, it stood at 735.1 billion tenge.
Other categories grew quickly. Goods for homes and cottages rose from 152.2 billion to 390.5 billion tenge. Food products increased from 111.4 billion to 238.3 billion tenge. Clothing, footwear, and sporting goods grew from 277.4 billion to 401 billion tenge.
Among online services sold through marketplaces, passenger transportation and tickets led the market. Passenger transportation accounted for 863.4 billion tenge, while tickets and seat reservations for transport totaled 624.6 billion tenge.
