Rivers overflowed in several districts of Almaty region after torrential rains that lasted for several days, Orda.kz reports.
The highest rise in water levels was recorded in the Turgen, Aksay, Uzynkargaly and Talgar rivers. A local state of emergency was declared in some areas.
According to the regional akimat, the adjacent territory and basement of the Toimart shopping center in Karasai district were flooded after the water level rose in the Aksay River. There were no casualties. Utility and rescue services pumped out the water, cleaned the riverbed and restored the flow.

In addition, on the territory of Kayer Aksai LLP in the village of Zhanaturmys, the riverbank was damaged by water erosion. As a result, soil collapsed in the northwestern part of the quarry. To reduce the risk of flooding, specialists deepened and widened the channel, removed more than 5600 cubic meters of soil and built a 320-meter technological road for special equipment.
In Yenbekshikazakh district, 17 yurts at tourist sites were flooded after the Turgen River overflowed. Temporary bridges were damaged, and traffic on the Turgen–Asy road was temporarily closed. In four days, rescuers evacuated more than 100 people to safe areas, including tourists and shepherds on the Asy plateau. Road restoration work is now underway. Temporary restrictions have been imposed on visits to mountainous areas, while police posts and round-the-clock duty have been organized.
Akim Marat Sultangaziyev said the relevant services must eliminate the consequences as soon as possible, increase the capacity of riverbeds and continue preventive measures to avoid similar situations.
According to Kazhydromet, the threat has not been fully eliminated because rainfall continues in mountainous areas. All services are working in enhanced mode.
