The country’s Foreign Ministry denied a Reuters report claiming that negotiations were underway with the CSTO on involving Russian military personnel in joint patrols along the Tajik–Afghan border, Orda.kz reports.
The ministry emphasized that the situation along the republic’s borders remains stable and fully under the control of security forces.
Over the past week, five people — all Chinese citizens — were killed near the Tajikistan–Afghanistan border. Initial reports only indicated three killed.
Tajikistan has announced that it is strengthening border security. Reports have also surfaced that talks have been initiated between Dushanbe and Kabul.
The border with Afghanistan has long been an area of concern for Tajikistan.
