The Taliban government’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin held a phone conversation, according to a statement shared by the Taliban Foreign Ministry on X, Orda.kz reports.
In the statement released on December 2, the ministry said both sides expressed readiness to jointly investigate the recent attack carried out from Afghan territory into Tajikistan and to strengthen security along the border.
Amir Khan Muttaqi noted the importance of coordinated efforts to maintain stability in the region.
Tajikistan and Afghanistan have recently created an atmosphere of trust for political, economic, and security cooperation, but certain forces are attempting to undermine this process, the Taliban statement said.
No specific groups or actors were named.
According to the Taliban, Sirojiddin Muhriddin supported closer coordination on border issues and said Tajikistan is interested in improving relations and maintaining constructive engagement.
Tajikistan has not issued official comments on the matter, reports Asia Plus.
In late November, attackers from the Afghan side targeted Chinese nationals working in Tajikistan.
Meanwhile, China’s embassy in Tajikistan on Monday urged Chinese companies and personnel to evacuate areas near the Afghan border, Global Times reported. The appeal came after the two attacks that resulted in casualties among Chinese citizens.
The embassy also advised other Chinese nationals in Tajikistan to avoid border regions and take appropriate safety precautions. Global Times noted the message was distributed through the embassy’s WeChat account (the notice did not appear on its official website).
The advisory added that in case of emergencies, individuals should contact local authorities and seek assistance from the Chinese embassy.
Earlier, China called on Tajik authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Chinese businesses and citizens in the country, according to Asia Plus.
