Public colleges in Kazakhstan will be allowed to rent out their gyms, swimming pools, stadiums and other sports facilities outside class hours, Orda.kz reports.

The Ministry of Education has expanded the rules governing the rental of sports facilities at public educational institutions. Previously, the rules applied only to general education schools. Colleges are now included as well.

Money earned from rentals may be used to maintain and repair sports facilities, purchase new equipment and upgrade college infrastructure.

The ministry expects the change to make better use of existing facilities while giving local residents greater access to sports.
