Kazakhstani Schools To Make Constitution Classes Mandatory

Several new compulsory subjects will be introduced in Kazakhstani schools from September, Minister of Education Zhuldyz Suleimenova said at a government meeting, Orda.kz reports.
Students in grades 5–7 will study Fundamentals of the Constitution. The course Law and Order will be introduced in grades 8–11. For students in grades 5–11, the subject Personal Safety will also be introduced. In addition, Geography of Kazakhstan will return in grades 8 and 9.
The course Fundamentals of Law, which was previously optional, will now become mandatory for all students. Its content will be brought into line with the new Constitution.
According to Suleimenova, the ministry is fully revising educational standards, curricula and programs.
Along with high-quality knowledge, one of the school’s most important tasks is to educate citizens who obey the law, value work and understand their responsibility to the state and society,the minister said.
