Almaty: Criminal Scheme Involving Special Public Service Center Employees Exposed

A criminal scheme for illegally registering cars has been stopped in Almaty, Orda.kz reports, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Department for Combating Organized Crime, with the support of the Prosecutor's Office, has uncovered a large-scale operation to forge documents and change vehicle identification numbers.
During the operational activities, an underground workshop where cars' VIN codes were changed was discovered. More than 150 cars were identified as being illegally registered.
The involvement of employees of special SPCs and so-called "intermediaries" has been established. Up to 50 cars were registered to one dropper. A total of 17 defendants were detained. Material evidence was seized, the investigation continues jointly with the NAO security service,reported the representative of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kuandyk Alpys.
Preliminary damage is estimated at over 320 million tenge. 17 criminal cases related to fraud, document forgery, and false data entry into accounting databases have been initiated.
