Almaty Air Quality Reportedly Improved

The results of a study conducted by the Almaty sanitary and epidemiological control department indicate improved air quality in the city, Orda.kz reports.
The department reports that 64,488 atmospheric air samples were tested for sanitary and chemical indicators in the first nine months of this year. Deviations were found in 4,083 samples, or 6.3%. The share of excesses was 7.5% in the same period last year.
Laboratory monitoring was also carried out on highways with the heaviest traffic. 23,424 samples were examined, and excess of maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances was recorded in 3,886 samples, or 16.6%. Last year, the figure reached 19.3%.
In the residential area in the zone of influence of industrial enterprises, 28,668 samples were examined, and excess of maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances was found in 197 samples or 1.4%, the report also says.
