Construction has begun on a waste-to-energy plant in the Zhambyl Region. The 80 billion tenge facility will use South Korean technology to process up to 900 tons of household waste per day and generate electricity, Orda.kz reports, citing the Central Communications Service.
A ceremonial capsule has been laid at the construction site. The project is being developed by ForYou Energy LLP with South Korean partners, whose names were not disclosed.
Construction will take place in two stages. The first is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027 and the second in the third quarter of 2029.
Once fully operational, the plant is expected to generate up to 20 MW of electricity. Around 400 jobs will be created during construction, with another 200 permanent positions planned after the plant opens.
The project is intended to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills while producing additional electricity. Investors also plan to train Kazakhstani specialists to operate the new technology.
