Steve Witkoff has visited Moscow for the fifth time this year, reportedly seeking to secure a Ukraine ceasefire on urgent orders from U.S. President Donald Trump, Orda.kz reports.
At the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a nearly three-hour meeting with Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy. Official details of the talks have not yet been disclosed.
Witkoff arrived in Moscow in the morning, and Bloomberg reported that Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov was also present.
Reportedly, Trump personally tasked Witkoff with brokering a halt to hostilities in Ukraine by August 8. The U.S. president has allegedly warned that if no diplomatic breakthrough is reached by that date, he will impose “tough tariffs” on Russia.
Just the day before, Trump held a phone call with Zelenskyy to discuss sanctions on Russia and defense cooperation.
Earlier, Orda.kz reported that while in Scotland, Trump shortened the ultimatum he had given Putin to reach an agreement on Ukraine — from 50 days to just 10–12. If negotiations fail, Trump has vowed to introduce 100% tariffs on Russian exports.
