Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, Orda.kz reports.
According to Zelenskyy, the two “coordinated positions,” exchanged assessments of the situation on the front line, and discussed potential sanctions against Russia.
The main thing is, of course, ending the war. We are grateful to the U.S. president for all efforts toward a fair and lasting peace. We now have decisions from the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark — more than a billion dollars for American weapons that Ukraine will receive. This cooperation with NATO countries will continue,
Zelenskyy stressed.
The Ukrainian president said sanctions promised by Trump against Russia “could change a lot.” Trump earlier vowed to impose secondary tariffs on Russia and its trading partners if there is no progress in resolving the conflict. His deadline is August 8.
They also discussed bilateral defense cooperation.
“The draft agreement on drones has already been prepared by the Ukrainian side; we are ready to discuss it in detail and sign it. This could be one of the strongest agreements,” Zelenskyy noted.
The previous phone conversation between Trump and Zelenskyy took place on July 4 — their first after Trump announced plans to increase arms supplies to Ukraine through NATO partners.
