The flood situation in East Kazakhstan region may become more complicated in the coming days, Orda.kz reports. According to Kazhydromet, intensive snowmelt, river ice breakup and weakening ice conditions are expected in the region from April 1 to 3.
Against this background, ice jams, active meltwater runoff and rising river levels are possible. This increases the risk of flooding in settlements, according to the warning.
The emergency department advises residents to prepare in advance. People are being told to clear ditches and drainage channels so that water does not accumulate near their homes, and to prepare bags, sand, soil and clay in case protective embankments are needed.
If a house is located in a flood-risk area, residents are advised to move food supplies and belongings from basements and cellars to a safe place.
