Five regions of Kazakhstan are at increased risk of flooding this spring, Orda.kz reports.
Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Kegen Tursynbayev made the announcement during a Senate briefing.
According to him, the regions at risk are North Kazakhstan, Akmola, East Kazakhstan, Abay, and Karaganda.
We monitor the situation every day. Since March 1, a 24-hour operational headquarters has been working at the command center. Together with local executive bodies, we have taken all the necessary preventive measures. Engineering work has already been carried out. There is currently no threat to populated areas, the situation is under control, and our personnel and equipment are ready. Tursynbayev said.
He noted that these regions are traditionally vulnerable because of natural factors such as deep snow cover and frozen soil. The assessment is being carried out by specialists from Kazhydromet and the Ministry of Water Resources.
The ministry added that there is currently no danger to populated areas and that emergency services are fully prepared if the flood situation worsens.
