The Trump administration has not renewed a U.S. Treasury license that allowed energy transactions with sanctioned Russian banks, effectively cutting off payments for Russian energy exports, Orda reports, citing Reuters.
According to a U.S. Treasury representative, General License 8L expired as scheduled at 12:01 AM ET on Wednesday (source).
A White House source told Fox News that the decision aims to block U.S. allies from purchasing Russian energy, warning that those who continue could face secondary sanctions.
The Treasury Department emphasized that sanctions remain a key tool in efforts to end hostilities and push for negotiations to resolve the war.
