Drivers in Almaty will start receiving push notifications when entering the low-emission zone, Orda.kz reports, citing the akimat.
For now, there will be no fines or restrictions. Cameras will only collect traffic and air quality data.
Notifications will be sent to users of the Almaty Parking app whose cars are recorded by the system when entering the zone. The message will indicate the date of entry and include a link to the website and a contact phone number for more information.
The project has been operating in pilot mode since April 28 in the area between Bogenbay Batyr, Abay, Zheltoksan, and Dostyk streets. Cameras, radars, and air sensors have been installed there. They record traffic flow while also measuring the state of the air.
Outwardly, the section is no different from an ordinary road.
The main goal of the pilot period is to control the development of specialized software, including a comprehensive transport accounting system and a data analytics module for transport flows entering the LEZ,the statement said.
The test will last until the end of 2026.
