U.S. Envoy and Deputy Secretary of State Meet Toqayev Ahead of Washington Visit

Special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau visited Kazakhstan’s southern capital yesterday as part of a regional business tour, Orda.kz reports.
Following their stay in Almaty, Gor and Landau traveled to Astana, where they held talks with President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev.
The meeting took place a week before the C5+1 Summit scheduled for November 6 in Washington, to which Toqayev was invited by President Trump.
According to the Aqorda press service, Toqayev conveyed his gratitude to the U.S. President for the invitation and reaffirmed his support for both the domestic and foreign policy pursued by the Trump administration.
The sides discussed cooperation in various fields and also touched upon the topic of critical minerals. Gor and Landau expressed confidence that Toqayev’s upcoming visit to the United States would help strengthen economic and investment ties between the two countries.
In a related development, the U.S. has shown interest in Kazakhstan’s tungsten reserves.
