Trump to Host Armenia–Azerbaijan Peace Talks at White House, Sides Could Sign Letter of Intent

Azerbaijan and Armenia are expected to sign a US-brokered memorandum of understanding in Washington on Friday, committing to pursue peace, Orda.kz reports, citing Middle East Eye.
US President Donald Trump will reportedly host Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House for the event.
The document will reportedly be a “letter of intent” rather than a full peace agreement, as Baku continues to demand that Yerevan amend its constitution to remove territorial claims on Azerbaijan — a step requiring a national referendum.
The meeting follows July talks in Abu Dhabi, where Aliyev suggested the sides could agree on basic principles within months. One of the main unresolved issues remains the proposed Zangezur Corridor linking Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenia’s Syunik region — a condition Armenia rejects as implying territorial claims.
For its part, Armenia has been advocating their preferred route - The Crossroads of Peace.
US and Turkish proposals for a privately managed corridor have so far failed to win both sides’ approval.
Conflicts over Nagorno-Karabakh have erupted, most recently in 2020 and 2023, with Azerbaijan regaining full control of the territory in September 2023.
