Toqayev Warns of Nuclear Risks and Climate Threats at Religious Leaders’ Congress

At the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, Qasym-Jomart Toqayev warned about the growing risks facing global security, Orda.kz reports.
The president stressed the seriousness of the situation, noting that the risk of nuclear conflict is now considered the highest in decades.
"The risk of a nuclear conflict is a cause for concern. The probability of such an Armageddon is estimated by experts as the highest in recent decades."
He pointed to deepening geopolitical fault lines and rising social tensions worldwide.
“Unfortunately, instead of constructive initiatives and a policy of détente, confrontational thinking is gaining momentum in the world, geopolitical fault lines are widening, and social tension is growing.”
Toqayev said diplomacy must play a central role in reversing these trends.
In such difficult realities, in my opinion, constructive diplomacy should play a key role as the main instrument for developing dialogue, overcoming mutual alienation and increasing trust in the international arena.
He also appealed to religious leaders to help stabilize the global situation.
We also place great hopes on religious leaders, who bear a special responsibility for promoting inter-civilizational exchanges and strengthening trust between people and society. I am confident that religious leaders will make every effort to stop the world from sliding into the abyss of chaos, reminding many politicians of common sense, good will and moral responsibility.
Turning to environmental concerns, Toqayev noted that climate change poses particular dangers in Central Asia.
Natural changes here are faster than the world average. In our region there is drought, glaciers are melting, fresh water reserves are decreasing. The spiritual traditions of all peoples teach us to believe in nature and live in harmony with the world around us, because the earth is our common home, given to us by the Creator, and caring for it is our common duty.
He proposed adopting a joint document on the role of religious leaders in addressing climate change, emphasizing principles of environmental responsibility and support for vulnerable regions.
