Toqayev Voices Support for Peace Efforts on Ukraine
Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev expressed support for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Russia, Orda.kz reports.
The phone call between Toqayev and Russian President Vladimir Putin took place at the initiative of the Russian side. According to the Aqorda press service, the conversation was held in a "trust-based and friendly atmosphere," with international issues — particularly the situation concerning Ukraine — taking center stage.
President Putin briefed Toqayev on the outcome of his recent meeting with Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump. That meeting was held earlier this week at the Kremlin.
Toqayev welcomed the preliminary agreements reached and reiterated that Kazakhstan has consistently advocated for a peaceful, diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
The two leaders also discussed bilateral matters. Special emphasis was placed on preparations for Toqayev’s upcoming state visit to Moscow in November. Toqayev emphasized the importance of the visit as an opportunity to deepen strategic partnerships and strengthen allied ties with Russia.
