Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Astana on a state visit, Orda.kz reports, citing Akorda.
He was personally met by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the plane ramp.
A guard of honor was assembled at the capital’s airport for the Russian president’s arrival. When Putin’s plane entered Kazakhstan’s airspace, it was escorted by fighter jets from Kazakhstan’s Air Defense Forces. Helicopters carrying the flags of the two countries also flew over the runway.
At Tokayev’s invitation, Putin will stay in Kazakhstan from May 27 to 29. The program includes an informal dinner between the two presidents, high-level talks, and participation in events under the Eurasian Economic Union.
On May 28, Astana will host the Eurasian Economic Forum with the participation of EAEU leaders. The next day, the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council will meet to discuss the union’s further work.
