During a meeting on the Digital Qazaqstan project, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev criticized banks for failing to comply with legal requirements to connect to the digital financial infrastructure created by the National Bank, Orda.kz reports.
The issue concerns interbank QR payments, transfers, and transactions using the digital tenge.
“The obligation for all banks to connect to the infrastructure is enshrined in law, but the largest banks are delaying the implementation of this requirement,” Tokayev said.
The head of state also called for more active use of AI in industry and greater support for export-oriented IT projects. According to him, more than 90% of public services have already been moved online, but the information systems of state bodies are still not integrated into end-to-end processes. He also instructed the government to speed up the digital transformation of the state apparatus. The process is to be coordinated by the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.
It is worth noting that the unified QR system was originally expected to launch back in 2022.
