Kazakhstan has officially launched a unified interbank QR payment system, with three banks currently connected, Orda.kz reports.
The National Bank announced that the service operates through the National Payment Corporation (NBRK) and is accessible via mobile banking apps. As of September 30, customers of Bank CenterCredit, Home Credit Bank, and Freedom Bank can make payments using the new system.
To pay, users open their bank’s mobile app, scan the QR code displayed on a merchant terminal serviced by any of the participating banks, and confirm the transaction, the regulator clarified.
The unified QR system hasn’t yet been rolled out across all banks, but the National Bank says expansion is underway. Other institutions will add the feature once they complete the necessary internal adjustments.
Earlier, National Bank Head Timur Suleimenov said nine additional banks have joined the system in pilot mode.
The regulator expects all of them to be fully connected by the end of the year.
