Ten forest fires were recorded on Kazakhstan’s state forest lands on August 6, Orda.kz reports.

Fires were reported in the Akmola, Karaganda, Kostanay and Turkestan Regions, as well as in the Kokshetau, Karkaraly and Ulytau national parks and the Ertis Ormany and Semey Ormany forest reserves.

According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ertis Ormany recorded the highest number, with three fires. One fire was reported at each of the other affected locations.

The fires were detected through aerial and ground patrols and early-warning systems.

Forest guards, aerial firefighting teams, helicopters and specialized equipment from Kazavialesookhrana were deployed. Authorities said the fires were prevented from spreading to larger forested areas and nearby settlements.

Efforts to contain and extinguish several fires are continuing.

The Ecology Ministry urged visitors to follow fire-safety rules while in forested areas.
