Forest Fire in Eastern Kazakhstan Forces Evacuation of 190 Children

A forest fire broke out in the Borodulikha District on July 16. Firefighting efforts have been complicated by extreme heat and the highest fire-danger level in the region, an Orda.kz correspondent reports.
State forest guards and Emergency Situations Department personnel were sent to the scene. An AS350 helicopter equipped with a Bambi Bucket and carrying four airborne firefighters was also deployed. A Mi-8 helicopter operated by the state enterprise Kazavialesookhrana was dispatched from the village of Katon-Karagay.
A forest fire was registered in Compartment 57 of the Kamyshenskoye Forestry unit of the Borodulikha branch of the Semey Ormany State Forest Nature Reserve,Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources reported.
According to operational data, 101 personnel and 25 vehicles were involved in the response, including four buses and two KamAZ trucks.
The helicopters completed 24 water drops, rescuers said. Additional personnel and equipment continued to be sent to the scene.
The Abai Region Emergency Situations Department confirmed that 190 children were evacuated from the Dos BolLIKE summer camp, located within the Kamyshenskoye Forestry area. Two children were picked up by their parents, while the remaining 188 were evacuated to the village of Borodulikha.
