Thirteen forest fires were recorded on state-managed forest lands across Kazakhstan on August 3, Orda.kz reports, citing the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

Fires were reported in the East Kazakhstan and Karaganda Regions; the Markakol and Korgalzhyn nature reserves; the Bayanaul and Karkaraly national parks; the Ertis Ormany and Semey Ormany forest reserves; and the Zhasyl Aymak state enterprise.

Firefighters, forest guards and a Mi-8 helicopter operated by Kazavialesookhrana and equipped with a water-dropping bucket were deployed. Crews are still working to extinguish remaining hotspots in several areas.

The Ecology Ministry said the wildfire risk remains high because of hot weather and passing thunderstorm fronts.

The fires were detected early through Kazavialesookhrana aerial patrols and the forest-fire early-warning system.
