Karaganda residents are reporting smog and an acrid burning smell in the city on social media, Orda.kz reports.
According to comments under a video published by MSU.CITY, the smell was noticeable even inside apartments. Some residents wrote that they woke up at night or early in the morning feeling short of breath.
This morning I woke up because of an incomprehensible smell. The windows were open, and the whole apartment stank of burning. It’s just a nightmare, one resident wrote.
Another Karaganda resident said she opened the windows at around 05:30 and at first thought there was a fire somewhere nearby.
I also woke up at night because I started choking on this smoke. It’s terrible, she wrote.
Social media users are also writing about “yellow smog” and demanding a response from the ecology department and local authorities.
The Orda.kz editorial team is preparing a request to the regional akimat to clarify the circumstances.
