SPP, Slovakia's gas utility, started importing Russian gas through the TurkStream pipeline on February 1, Orda reports, citing Tasr.
He also announced plans to double import volumes in April, though exact figures were not disclosed.
The company maintains an active contract with Gazprom, benefiting from lower transit fees compared to alternative suppliers.
TurkStream alone cannot fully meet Slovakia’s needs, according to SPP trade division head Michal Lalik, due to pipeline capacity limitations through Hungary.
SPP has reserved capacity for imports via Germany through the Czech Republic to compensate. The company relied primarily on gas withdrawals from its above-average reserves in January to cover demand.
This announcement follows strained relations with Ukraine after it discontinued Russian gas transit.
