A Russian truck driver says he has been forced to live in his vehicle in 43-degree heat after Kazakh police withheld his documents without explanation, lawyer Rena Kerimova reported on Facebook, Orda.kz writes.
Konstantin, a Russian citizen, has been stranded near Aralsk in the Kyzylorda region for four days following a road accident. He insists he was not at fault.
Police confiscated his passport, driver’s license, and vehicle papers. According to Konstantin, they have since refused to communicate with him.
The crash occurred on the evening of August 26. Konstantin explained that while driving between two trucks, he pulled over and braked to avoid hitting the vehicle ahead.
A truck crashed into me from behind. The impact pushed it into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a passenger car,
Konstantin told lawyer Kerimova.
Officers arrived almost three hours later, filed paperwork, and sent the drivers for medical tests. The breathalyzer showed a zero alcohol result. However, instead of releasing him, the police took Konstantin to the station while letting others go.
Since then, he says he has been unable to leave:
We sat in the vestibule all day, they wouldn’t let us in, no one came out to us. Then they told us to come back tomorrow, then again tomorrow.
Konstantin provided dashcam footage showing he was not at fault, but police still suggested impounding his truck.
“On what basis, if I am the victim?” he asked.
The driver remains in the cabin of his truck under the scorching sun, with communication hampered by a language barrier.
I see the video from the dashcam. There were no violations on his part. It is unclear why he has been held without documents for four days already,
Kerimova said, urging authorities to intervene.
