The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan said it is continuing to evacuate the country’s citizens from the conflict zone in the Middle East together with various agencies, Orda.kz reports.
In total, since the evacuation began, more than 7,300 Kazakhstanis have been brought home with the assistance of resident and non-resident airlines, according to data provided on March 9.
From March 3 to March 8, 37 flights were operated from countries in the region to Kazakhstan, bringing 6,254 people back home.
In addition to flights, citizens are also being evacuated via the land borders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkmenistan, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.
Kazakhstan’s diplomatic missions in the region continue to coordinate efforts on the ground and remain in constant contact with fellow citizens, the ministry added.
Earlier, Kazakh citizens were urged to refrain from traveling to the Middle East because of the ongoing hostilities and airspace closures.
Recall that on February 28, the armed forces of the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran, carrying out airstrikes on multiple targets. Since then, tensions in the region have continued to rise. On March 9, it also became known that the son of the late Ali Khamenei had been chosen as Iran’s new supreme leader.
