Russian Deputy Proposes Tax on Labor Migrants' Money Transfers - Kloop

Russian party leader of "Just Russia - For Truth," Sergei Mironov, believes that a state duty should be imposed on cross-border transfers for migrants in the country, Orda reports, citing Kloop.
Mironov claims citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan transferred over $14 billion to their homeland last year.
The vast majority of migrants don't pay any taxes in Russia, while guest workers are taking huge amounts of money out of the country with complete state negligence,he said.
The deputy believes that if a 3% duty were introduced for such transfers, the income generated from transfers of labor migrants from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan alone would amount to over 45 billion rubles.
Don't we need such money? We will prepare a legislative initiative and submit it to the State Duma, he said.
Mironov noted that the additional commission for transfers was discussed in 2021, but then the Ministry of Finance "dragged out the matter."
He claims officials raise tariffs, excise taxes, and fees for Russians, but when it "comes to touching foreigners - they start playing games."
