Moldova will officially withdraw from the CIS on April 8, 2027, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi said, Orda.kz reports.
According to Popșoi, Chisinau sent the relevant notification to the CIS Secretariat in Minsk after the denunciation documents were promulgated and published in the Official Gazette. He said Moldova’s withdrawal would be legally completed 12 months after that notification.
We have received confirmation that the notification was received. Thus, from a legal point of view, after 12 months, on April 8 next year, in accordance with international law, we will no longer be part of the CIS.Popșoi said.
The Moldovan authorities say the country has in practice been outside the CIS for years, as it no longer takes part in the bloc’s activities because they do not correspond to national interests. At the same time, Chisinau plans to remain part of certain agreements, especially in the economic and social spheres.
The decision was initiated by Moldova’s Foreign Ministry after parliament backed the denunciation of the CIS founding documents.
