President Tokayev Orders Large-Scale Construction Across Kazakhstan: What Will Be the Focus?

Following Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov’s report on the first half of the year, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the government to launch a nationwide program to build social and infrastructure facilities, Orda.kz reports.
Bektenov said Kazakhstan’s economy grew by 4.1% in the first half of the year. Construction posted the strongest growth at 15.2%, followed by manufacturing at 9.8% and transport at 7.1%. Investment in fixed assets reached 9.5 trillion tenge, while private investment increased by 21.4%.
Bektenov said 200 investment projects worth a total of 1.7 trillion tenge are expected to be launched in the manufacturing sector by the end of the year. The projects are expected to create about 17,000 permanent jobs.
The prime minister also reported on preparations for the heating season. He said five thermal power plants had been removed from the critical red risk category following the previous season, while three others had been moved into the green category. Reconstruction work this year covered nine power units, 55 boilers and 51 turbines. A total of 384 billion tenge was allocated for modernization.
Bektenov also discussed the Data Center Valley project. Kazakhstan is working with international technology companies to develop infrastructure with a capacity of 250 megawatts. Pledged foreign investment in the project exceeds $10 billion.
The prime minister also reported on the development of tourism infrastructure. The Almaty SuperSki project is expected to add 60 kilometers of ski slopes and increase the resort’s capacity to 10,000 visitors a day. Its launch is scheduled for December 2028.
Following the meeting, Tokayev instructed the government to begin implementing the nationwide construction program. Akorda, the presidential press service, said particular attention would be paid to modern medical facilities intended to improve the quality of life in Kazakhstan’s regions.
