The United States has officially updated its trade policy to impose new tariffs on 69 countries and territories, including the European Union, Orda.kz reports.
The announcement comes just ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s August 1 deadline for securing new trade agreements. The new tariffs range from 10% to 41%, according to an executive order published on the White House website.
The new duties will take effect in seven days — except for Canada, where they will apply immediately. The highest tariffs were applied to Syria (41%), Laos and Myanmar (40%), while the lowest rate of 10% was assigned to the United Kingdom and the Falkland Islands.
Kazakhstan, which was added to the expanded tariff list back in April, has been hit with a 25% duty.
In early July, President Trump sent a letter to Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev confirming the imposition of a 25% tariff against Kazakhstan starting August 1.
Following the news, the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan says most Kazakh exports will not be affected.
